Thailand – Destruction Ceremony organized by DIP on 10th March 2017


The Thailand Annual Destruction Ceremony took place on the 10th of March at the 11th Infantry Regiment of the King's Guard, at the Military base located near the government center of Bangkok. 

To open the event, Mr. Prawit Wongsuwan ,the Minister of Defense of Thailand and the Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand spoke and welcomed many representatives from various nations and embassies who joined the ceremony.

The Department of Intellectual Property, in collaboration with several IP enforcement authorities such as the Royal Thai Police, the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the Customs Department, organised this particular destruction process destroying goods from 2,368 closed cases. The sale of counterfeit goods has decreased by 80% and as many as 3,600,000 items have been confiscated totalling more than 1.7 billion Thai Baht. This number of confiscated counterfeit goods has been the highest ever recorded in Thailand up to this point.   The Ministry expressed its confidence that Thailand will soon be withdrawn from the United States Priority Watch List (PWL), hopefully as soon as April of this year.
