Huge seizure in Gran Canaria Port Customs of goods imported in transit

02/22/2017

A huge seizure has been conducted at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Port Customs of goods imported in transit. There are 70 brands involved in this seizure. The fact that it has been conducted thanks to the new mechanism to stop fake goods in transit provided by the Regulation (EU) No 2015/2424 of the European Parliament and the Council amending the Community trade mark regulation makes it a remarkable seizure.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Port is the fourth port in Spain and one of the main ports in handling containers, with more than 1,000,000 of TEUS per year. The presence of important international shipping lines has increased the traffic of containers and due to the strategic position of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, REACT views this seizure as a good opportunity to cooperate and encourage the local authorities to continue stopping fake goods in transit.

The goods arrived from Dubai and the destination was Mauritania. The infringers have, in a disguised manner, tried to import this shipment using wording in the boxes like “humanitarian aid”.

Several REACT Members have already confirmed the counterfeit nature of the goods and REACT is cooperating with authorities so that the destruction is authorized and conducted shortly.
